ATTRACTIONS OF DOLORES HIDALGO GTO:

Casa de Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Museum

This museum is one of the favorite places to see, nothing less than the building where Don Miguel Hidalgo (Mexican independence hero) lived and which retain their furniture as well as several important documents, as many museums in Mexico on Mondays is closed.

The Main Square

Best known as the "Garden of the Great Hidalgo". Located in the heart of the city where you can enjoy the day sitting in one of the wrought iron benches while testing a typical ice cream as I said before with varied flavors and some unusual flavors like chocolate and alfalfa , tequila, prickly pear, pork, mole, etc.. etc. Around the square are craft shops, restaurants and a hotel famous for hosting the president Benito Juárez. The square also houses the monument of Don Miguel Hidalgo.

The Parish

In the porch of this parish located in the historical center of Dolores Hidalgo, the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla gave the "Grito de Independencia " this was the event that marks the beginnings of the independence of Mexico. Every September 15th, a representat of the President of the Republic gives the grito of independencia, and at least once in his term, the same president of Mexico in turn leads In the celebrations of independence.

The Museum of National Independence

Here are shown the documents of the period of Mexican independence war, and several sculptures. Worth knowing, especially when presenting exhibitions of local artists, national and international, for those who love art.

The House of "Las Visitas".

Beautiful eighteenth century mansion with carved balconies in Baroque style. It was acquired by the state government of Guanajuato to host distinguished visitors to reach the city. It was made with material left in the Parish.

The City Hall.

Located on the main garden, was the home of Mariano Abasolo, a character who along with Hidalgo and Allende took part in the rebellion against the Spanish. Now is the town hall and the municipal government headquarters. Also inside, you can see murals depicting the history of the city, an attractive stained glass window at the top and also a replica of the bell that in the morning of September 16th 1810, Hidalgo used for call the people to fight for freedom.

House and Tomb of Jose Alfredo Jimenez:

Another couple of good places for tourists are the house-museum of Jose Alfredo Jimenez, one of the most famous songwriters and darlings of our Mexican repubublica, and beautifully decorated tomb in the Pantheon in the city.

Flagstick

Last but not least the monumental flagstick, which along with Monterrey are the largest flags, as I understand.

Would you visit this beautiful place?

Bajio International Airport is about an hour and a half of Dolores Hidalgo and on this tour you can visit the beautiful city of Guanajuato ( 15 minutes from the airport ) and the beautiful San Miguel de Allende ( 1 hour from the airport). I highly recommend that you stay in San Miguel Allende.
